After two years of furiously paced touring and recording, LiL iFFy (“the greatest Wizard rapper alive” according to MTV-U) has experienced more success with his brand of hardcore, paranormal-focused rap music than most experience in an entire career – and is showing no signs of slowing down in 2013.
The alter ego of Knoxville, Tennessee native Wil Wright, LiL iFFy sprung to life in 2011 after a long and frustrating period of writer’s block. Wright, an indie-pop scenester and professional musician since 1999, awoke one summer morning with a head full of magic. By the end of that day, he and producer/DJ Tom Ato had cranked out the first of what would become dozens upon dozens of hard, wizard-inspired rap songs.
Since the release of the first single, the tequila/charm-driven “Patron Us,” LiL iFFy has gained honors and momentum at a furious pace. From his first proper performance at TheMusicSlut.com’s 2011 CMJ kickoff party to Daytrotter’s “Best of 2012” list, festival appearances and coast-to-coast touring, iFFy has cultivated a sizable, diverse North American following comprised largely of both fantasy and rap loyalists. iFFy’s live performances are the stuff of legends … sweaty, aggressive, R-rated, hilariously bizarre yet serious and in your face.
The remainder of 2013 will see more tour dates, including an appearance at the Bonnaroo Music + Arts Festival, as well as the completion of iFFy’s Wizard trilogy with the release of his third full-length album, Wand Out.
